[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
This is the spectacularly high Gatteville Lighthouse (Phare de Gatteville) on the Pointe de Barfluer, on the northeast corner of the Cherbourg Peninsular. The original 18th century lighthouse is the shorter tower on the left. The current lighthouse was completed in 1834, and is 76 metres high.

The tower has 365 steps, which make for an exhausting climb. If you ever do climb it, look carefully at the mortar between the bricks on the inner wall of the spiral staircase. There are a lot of small names written next to dates – the earliest I found went back to the 1920s.

I also added my own name, next to the same date on which this photo was taken – anyone who can find it and email a photo of it to me will receive two points for each of their pictures. I’ll be very impressed if anyone takes up this challenge.

Hi Matt,
This lighthouse is of rather impressive size when compared to cars parked next to it (and possibly two human figures to the left?).
However I have some doubts about the composition here - I think it would be much better if you positioned the lighthouse more to right or left instead in the centre.
I believe that more distinctive panoramic format would also work here, to emphasise that immense sky and very flat coast.
