Photographer’s Note
The parish church of Saint John the Baptist in the picturesque village of Varaignes. Sorry for the car, but on the morning we visited there was a craft fare being held and the village was very busy with lots of cars parked all over the place. This one would have been rather difficult to clone out because of the window.
Varaignes is a French commune in the départment of Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It is located 16 kilometres north-west of the town of Nontron in the Périgord Limousin natural regional park.
It has a 16th century château, which houses a museum of local arts and crafts with an emphasis on weaving. The church of Saint-Jean Baptiste dates from the 12th century with alterations and additions made in the 13th, 15th and 19th centuries. The village is also a centre of turkey production with an annual procession and Turkey Fair held on the 11th of November each year.

Hello Stephen. Your documentary photos have their value also by the qualified texts. Both together lets the history of the buildings etc. becomes alive. The branches in the upper display space give a natural framework to the photo. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hallo Stephen!
A wonderful "Papagolfade" ;-)! The in her own way simple and at the same time fancy architecture here creates an impressive and interesting church. This wonderful and somehow elegant steeple is a real eyecatcher. Your point of view couldn't be better to show this building. Really beautiful ...
Greetings from cool Germany - and havea nice Sunday!
Frank!

Bonjour Stephen,
Une belle église, bien de cette région, sous une lumière typique. La lumière est forte et estompe un peu les couleurs. Un bon travail. Les maires devraient faire des arrêtés, interdisant le stationnement autour des monuments. Bravo.
Bon dimanche
Cordialement

Hello Stephen!
Simple but truly effective composition! Sharpness and exposure are quite suitable to the image! Again, even the car added interest to the image! If it weren't there, we'd surely be transported back to ancient times! O well, it's there, good, we know the church has been well preserved!
TFS - congratulations!
Have a great sunday!

Hi Stephen,
Another splendid countryside church to add to your impressive collection.
The lighting details and lovely blue sky with a bit of contrast green makes for a fine phot.

Hi Stephen, I like the square cropping here. And I assume you've taken this photo from a POV of extreme shade into harsh light, so you've done really well with the light management here. It's a lovely old church and your Note is as always highly informative. TFS, Lisa
