Photographer's Note

After returning from a brief trip to the French Polynesian Island of Moorea last January, I submitted the photo "Return from Paradise". There the view was a beach scene in front of our bungalow shortly after sunrise.

During our brief stay on the island, we rented a car and circumnavigated the 60 km (38 mile) periphery. In two spots on the periphery there exist a pair of meandering roads that climb into the interior and converge at a lookout point, "Belvédere." The prominent peak that soars to an altitude of 880 m (2640 ft) is Mouaroa, one of four prominent peaks on the island. The lush green vegetation permeating every nook and cranny of the island is evocative of an imagined Jurassic Park. The time on my camera read 14.50.13 (or 2:50:13 pm) at the time I took the photo.

Along with the earlier photo from Moorea, I am placing this shot in the new group theme, "PARADISE ON EARTH". I welcome others to contribute photos they regard as nature showing off its very best.

Warm regards to my friends at Trekearth, especially the French who own this distant corner of the earth, the last home to Jacques Brel and Paul Gaugin. They are buried in the same cemetery on the Island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas.

The photo was shot in RAW, and displayed a file size of 10.7 MB.

Dear Bülent Bey,

When I saw your picture, the first thought that it evoked was Jurassic Park, and apparently I was not alone.

The stiff vegetation is noteworthy and incites us to prepare plans for the summer holidays.

I liked your POV which gives a nice depth, and my only suggestion would be apply gradual toning to the sky.

with this lush vegetation and something mysterious feeling I think rather about the uninhabited island rather than a paradise. Fantastic place and excellent presentation, with a natural framing from all sites.
But you have posted already very similar photo. I would expect that on these fabulous islands there are a lot of different views worth showing.

I like the different levels of greenery in this photo. There are also many different types of plants, so there are a lot of shapes to enjoy. This spot must smell wonderful after a strong rain. Very nice depth, leading up to the peak in the distance.

Saturated tropical landscaping, multiple species, and
the plant encrusted distant monolith, all in fine resolution and natural lighting, another fine job.

An certainly a tough place to get to, but obviously worth it.

PS: The old tv program, Fantasy Island had many of its scenes, including the white victorian house filmed at Los Angeles's Arboreteum which is a fine botantical garden open to the public.

Smart use of the overhanging tropical greenery to mask the white sky. The fg vegetation adds depth & layering as well as framing the bg peak. Good sharpness & a nice capture of this lush & tropical paradise. And best of all there are no snakes, unlike Australia's tropical forests. I like the paw paw trees at left. I think Americans call them 'papaya'. Tfs!

Another fine picture from this lush green paradise. The Mouaroa with its strange shape perhaps denote its volcanic origin & differential erosion. Framing has been well achieved with the trees & foliage in the FG. There are indeed so many shades of green in this frame.
