[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Last week-end were the "days of patrimony", which consist in opening the national patrimony to everybody for free. Usually places that are forbidden to the public during the whole year, are the most visited places these days. But, this time it was the first opening of "Le Grand Palais" since 1993 when government decided to close it for renovation. Thus, to visit it you had to be very patient last week-end...it seemed the all world wanted to come in!

(For my part, I chose to come another day...that's why the picture isn't so crowded).

The Grand Palais, built in 1900, at the same time as the Eiffel Tower is widely composed of iron / steel materials. It was initially a place of art exposure, and later became the place where "cars" were exposed once a year for a couple of days festival.

I hesitated between posting it in B&W or in color...finally I chose color version because I wanted to show the renewal of that place with a spectator that seems to make a time travel in the early days of that place (the shadow man, reading a book as reading history). I wanted a contrast there. I also wanted to show the importance of materials and geometrics, representing this place, that's why I cropped the picture to make the lines more "directive / dynamics".

I also made a B&W version to make my choice. You can see it in the workshop I'll post soon.

Please comment/ critique. Don't hesitate to tell me what isn't right in it and give me advices to improve ;o)

Alex

Very interesting composition. I compared it with b&w and colour one is much better. Well done! cheers!

Franchement superbe!
Amicalement,
Francis

You did a nice photo of this very beautiful structure. i have been here twice and it is always a good photo opportunity because of it light and airy structure. You have done very well on this picture and your write-ups.

Alsi, thank you for your visit and comments on my photo, "Girl Behind the Grilles."

Salut Prisley
wondeful picture! i like this architecture shot and the old man standing there with the book. great! i also like the b&w workshop you made. imho, you could darken it a little because it's not bad only having the silhouette of the man and the rest of the hall wouldn't be that bright anymore.
best regards,
Martin

Hello Prisley. I just went through your portfolio and have to say that you have posted a lot of very interesting and artistic shots. I'm looking forward to see more of you.
That said, I think this particular picture is one of the best. Apart from the attractive building that we can admire in the background, the pensive pose of the man in the foreground - looking carefully into his guide - is of major importance. It is immediately clear that he is reading about this building and doing this, he is also waking up our curiosity. Good compo and very nice exposure. Well done!

This is a little masterpice, I really like it, perfect composed, BRAVO!!!
ciao, Fabio.

Hi Prisley,
This is a superb composition with good image quality. I like it a lot! I still like the original better than the WS photos. I'm afraid I have no suggestion to possibly improve this fine capture.
Cheers,
Skye

Firstly let me congratulate you on a wonderful image and title - it could almost be an advertising shot - the fact that it's a candid image in this setting makes it quite special in my eyes - a superb semi-silhouette against this fantastic backdrop - it is a really nice colour image but it also works so well in B&W as well - I would be hard pressed to know which one to post - I think it's a horese for course image in that sense - it would work well in some contexts in colour - in another context it works well de-saturated. The tonal range in both is so nice - the green caste in this colourt image also works so well.

I am so glad to discover this picture.

best wishes Kev

Michael

Great photo, as others have already said!
I prefer the colour version, if only for the lovely blue sky and green lattice roof. I think there's more of a sense of light and space than the B&W version.
It's very well composed and framed as well.
You must be very happy with this one.
Cheers
Brian

One of the images that I find myself coming back over and over... until today I didn' realized that I have never say anything. I like the way you have balanced the dark and lighted areas withour loosing details or overexposing. Great job.

Regards,
Enrique

Diane
