[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Buildings by the river Sarre (or Saar in German) of the town of Sarreguemines.

When the sun makes an appearance between dark clouds, shoot! It's a rare opportunity requiring some luck. And it's able to make even ordinary views special. Not that these buildings were uninteresting. I think they present well early 1900s (wild guess) architecture. All the details look even a little pompous for a town of roughly 20000 inhabitants.

I'm not a fan of new year's resolutions. But I'll try to more often go hunting for special light, not just trust my luck that it happens.
Happy new year!

I looked at the thumbnail and thought "light!", then I saw the title and then I opened it up. My first reaction was right. Light on a scene with a dark sky behind always looks special I think, and this time of year is the best time to catch it. Excellent shot.
I guess the difference between an amateur photographer who travels and a professional travel photographer is the ability to wait for the light.
Happy New Year to you too.
Kath

Hi Kari - really beautiful light, fantastic timing, this is my favourite type of light, and you were ,lucky to be in a photogenic location, which I would not have expected from Sarreguemines.

Hello Kari,

Your scene is excellent under dark, cloudy sky and you choose the title cleverly. I like splendid lights on façade while sky is very dark. River, trees, especially yellow one is really spectacular. Congratulations.

I would like to wish you and your family a healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Best Regards,

Ertugrul

Excellent contrast between the buildings, basking in the sun, and the threathening sky. The right decision in the right moment!
All the best for yoou and your family in the coming year.

The slanting sun erally adds to the warmth of this image, especially with the dark stormy sky behind

Hello Kari,
Superbe ciel et toute bonne lumière qui mettent bien en valeur cette jolie architecture.
Un tout bon pov et de jolis contrastes.
Best regards
Denise

Yes, you are right, Kari, it's all about light if you want to create photographs that stand out from the average. Early morning and late afternoon light usually provides us with the best photo ops, but breaks in the cloud in stormy weather can also provide some great opportunities for shooting subjects that would otherwise look quite flat in daylight - as you have well illustrated here. Cheers . . . David
