Photographer’s Note

Un peu de graphisme animal depuis la Plaine Africaine du Parc de la Tête d'Or, à Lyon.

La plaine africaine est un espace regroupant 130 espèces d'animaux, dont ces 3 zèbres, en semi-liberté sur 2,5 hectares. Les concepteurs ont privilégié la visibilité du public en fondant les enclos dans le décor, abolissant les traditionnelles grandes barrières du zoo du Parc.

Some animal graphics from La Plaine Africaine (African plain), of the Parc de la Tête d'Or, in Lyon.

The African plain is a space gathering 130 animal species, including these 3 zebras, in semi-freedom on a 2.5 hectares surface.
Architects privileged the visibility of the public by melting the enclosures in the decoration, abolishing the large barriers of the Park zoo.

awesome use of the patterns here. i love how they all blend together. i'm not sure about the strip of white across the top though. i think it could be cropped and none of the effects would be lost. well done!

Stripes rapsody.. even if we exatly know how the zebra looks like, your compo is a very good reason to learn it again.. perfectly graphical. B&W, relevant choice.

Très sympa cette photo.
Sur le haut de la crète de ces zèbres, là ou le noir se méalnge au blanc, on a vraiment l'impression de coups de pinceau!
Très beaux graphismes et très bien cadrée.

C'est très bien vu! notamment le mouvement inversé des deux premiers zèbres. La composition et le PP sont superbes, très beau travail graphique sur une idée très originale. j'aime beaucoup!!

c'est sans concession, blanc ,noir, le graphisme est puissant et l'effet recherché parfaitement reussi.
je me suis permis un WS qui recadre un peu le haut de l'image qui dissipe un peu.

Hello JB,

I love this shot of the pair of zebras. The contrast is spectacular, and the black and white, somehow, seems the only way to go. Well composed and exposed. Reiterating what Roberto says, the texture is evocative of a stiff brush.

Bonjour JB -

This is a very interesting abstract to look at. The 200-400 compressed the space between the animals so that it looks like everything is in one plane. The converging of the lines and the individual hairs of the animals mane all make for an interesting image. The composition with a minimal amount of background and the backs of the zebra's starting in the upper corners is spot on. The conversion to B&W further enhances the already interesting image. Bravo, well done!

Excellent photo and very graphic like you write. Well seen how the zebra's stand to eachother. You got some good details here but I wonder what technique (extreme contrast??) you used in PP to get the hairs in the neck of the zebra's look this way or is it natural?

The layering of the zebras creates a wonderful pattern .. It really strikes me how much the textured depth of the multiple animals adds to it.

jolie ligne graphique tout en contraste, le cadrage original apporte un vrai plus à la photo et permet ce jeu très intéressant entre le N/B ! J'aime bien aussi les différents plans de poils de zèbres.

Inspired composition concentrating on the pattern. The PP work has further enhanced the abstract nature of the image by eliminating the details no doubt on the original of hairs etc.

Not necessarily the most original picture, JB. I have seen many very similar to this already in magazines, books and posters, but still it gives always that nice impact and I wish I would have a similar shot in my collection too. At least I have to admit it! ;-)

Great graphical impact of this shot, JB, well seen, I was also thinking about a closed frame like the one in the WS but I definitely like this original version you post, with the delicate long curved line on top of the patterns you isolated, and the kind of background on top... Cheers ;) Daniel

Salut JB, un bail que je m'étais pas arreté laisser qq mots dans ta gallerie, la faute à ma façon (stupide ?) de critiquer (va falloir que je fasse qqch a cette habitude que j'ai prise d'ailleurs), mais je te surveille du coin de l'oeil, je regarde tes photos et elles sont belles ! Tes récentes sont très douces, "simples", facile a regarder et à apprécier, mais je m'arrete sur celle la qui est bien puissante, traitement nickel, impressionant de contrastes et la compo est vraiment géniale.

JB, une photo comme celle-ci est une réussite. J'aurais aimé l'avoir faite. Le graphisme naturel des zébrures de plusieurs zèbres dans un cadre très serré donne un cliché qui dépasse de beaucoup ce qu'on fait habituellement en photo.

alors la un grand merci car les zébres sont mes animaux préférer. Bonne idée de mettre cette photo en noir et blanc, on dirait que la crinière des bêtes est dessinée à coup de fuseau ce qui fait encore plus ressortir la couleur de ces zèbres et le graphisme des rayures.
