From a short trip to France: a picture of the spring of the small river Loue. It appears in full flow out of a cave in the limestone. The spot is in the middle of a large U turn of the river Doubs, and it is assumed that some of the Doubs' water drains into the porous limestone 300 meters higher and just a few kilometres away. This has first been shown when in 1901, a large quantity of the local liquor Absinth was accidentally poured into the Doubs, and appeared a few days later in the Loue (in the form of green colour and aniseed smell).
The place has been the location of a now ruined factory that used the water to power its machines. Today, a dam and electric power station are built into the canyon. |
