[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
The Cathedral of St. Caprais of Agen was built in the twelfth century on the site of a basilica built in the sixth century. It was sacked by the Normans in 853 and later restored. It was originally a collegiate church.

Wrecked in December 1561, it became a hay store in 1791 during the Revolution before being reopened in 1796 as the official cathedral of Agen, the former cathedral of Saint-Etienne lying in ruins.

The cathedral has several architectural particularities. Its Romanesque apse was extended during the Gothic period to produce a single nave. The old wooden bell tower was replaced in 1835 by the present one at the initiative of the Bishop Mgr de Levezou de Vezins. It has the distinction of being composed of three Gothic stylistic elements (Lancet Gothic, High Gothic, Flamboyant Gothic ). These are curiously presented in reverse chronological order.

A stitch of two photographs.

Hello Stephen,
Fine architecture in this photo, Your notes are of high standard, giving us a lot of history, difficult to believe, at one time a hay storage, time changes and back to original.

The streets are quiet in this photo, you picked a good time, no disstraction from the main subject.

Have a good weekend.
Regards,
Rob.

Hello Stephen. The cathedral has an impressing architecture. One regards the different structural style elements to this building. The tower-like elements are particularly interesting. Altogether worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Bonjour Stephen,
Jolie composition , avec la rue. La photo décrit l'église et permet d'apprécier des détails d'architecture ainsi que la texture des pierres.
Bonne journée
Cordialement
Joël

Bonjour Stephen

Hi Stephen

A splendid shot of this imposing cathedral. I like the concentric curves & smaller alcoves in front. Good sharpness & pov. Tfs!

Salut Stephen,
Encore une formidable prise de vue sur cette magnifique cathédrale d'Agen. Les détails d'architecture sont bien nets sur cet édifice roman. Les infimes distorsions perceptibles n'enlèvent rien à la beauté du sujet et de ton image.
Bravo mon Cher !
Pierre
