Here I show you the nave of the church St. Lukas in the small town Lauenau, south-west of Hannover in the federal state Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). Lauenau has 4000 inhabitants and already in 1190 a castle is proven here.

St. Lukas isn't very old - it was built in 1878 - but I think it has an inspiring confidence, beautiful and a somehow homey architecture. Not often I have had this feeling in a church and additionally St. Lukas inside has "human" dimensions.
It was built in neo-Gothic style and it has a well-known organ, built in 1897. You can see the organ and the outside of St. Lukas in the workshop.

Good morning Frank,
A very beautiful church interior. I agree with your thoughts of "human" dimensions and their relation to the feeling of a homey interior of a church. You have managed the light very well, the colours are beautiful and the sharpness excellent. I also like the organ end photo.

It's inspiring place, for sure. I like those Neo-Gothic places, they are made with such dedication to the style - like Votiv Kirche in Vienna or Yohaneksenkirkko in Helsinki.

So little time I have, that I do not keep up with the traversal photos of my friends. Beautiful place, very subtle architecture. Splendidly you coped Frank in this interior. Beautifully replete colours and excellent sharpness. The whole does very good impression.

Hallo Frank,
zuerst habe ich an die echte Backsteingothik gedacht, dazu wäre aber der Raum zu warm, zu bequem. Dann habe ich im Kommentar gelesen, worum es hier eigentlich geht. Ich bin sehr vorsichtig mit den Bauwerken, die (meistens in der zweiten Hälfte des 19-ten Jahrhunderts) nach dem Geschmack des Historismus erbaut wurden. Einerseits wurde damals die bis dahin selbstverständliche Einheit von Stil und Technik gebrochen. (Gothische Gewölben aus Stein sind auch technisch gesehen Meisterwerke - aber aus Stahlbeton?) Andererseits habe ich den Verdacht, dass die Architekten zwischen dem Klassizismus und dem Jugendstil einfach nicht mit der nötigen Phantasie dem plötzlich riesig gewachsenen Baubedarf nachkommen mussten. Wie sie aber in Massenproduktion brauchbare, meistens sogar schöne Bauwerke schaffen konnten - das ist ein Rätsel für mich, wenn ich an ihre Nachfolger denke.
