Photographer's Note

The Berkel starts in Billerbeck (Westphalia) and ends in Zutphen (Gelderland) where it mounds in the IJssel. There are several watermills along the river and in former times the river served for the transport of goods between Germany and the Netherlands.

In Coesfeld there is a ca. 2km long, picturesque path along the Berkel from the city center to the city boundary. This picture I took at noon while I was watching small grebes (see treknature). The temperature is around zero. I liked the contrast between the blueish colors of the sky and its reflection and the complementary brownish colors of the reed and trees.
