Photographer's Note

This half-timbered farm house is decorated by a special plaster, the so called "scratch plaster", in German "Hessischer Kratzputz". The plaster between the beams first of all is rough. In damp state patterns are scratched in this rough surface, whereas the surface of this patterns is smoothed and then painted with colours. The patterns and colours are very different from region to region. This way of plastering the house walls is mainly common in the German federal state Hessen.
