Photographer's Note

Here I show you a panorama of my region here in southern Westphalia. This photo, like my yesterday's post, was taken at a mountain range, called Kalteiche (cold oak), in a north-eastern direction. It's crest marks the frontier between the two federal states North Rhine Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen) and Hesse (Hessen).
My point of view is situated in an altitude of about 560 m. This view last year wasn't possible because the hiking trails here nearly non-stop ran through dense forests. The hurricane "Kyrill" in January 2007 hit this gap (you can see the rests of the stumps in the foreground) which now allows this outlook.

As you may perceive my region really is a paradise for hikers. A few hundred meters away from my outlook point runs the famous "Rothaarsteig", a long distance hiking trail (~ 160 kilometers) which approximately follows the mountain ridge between the two countries in an altitude of about 500 to 800 metres. Please look here.
