Photographer's Note

The Kiel Canal runs through Germany, connecting the North Sea to the Baltic Sea. It saves ships about 250 Nautical Miles off the journey compared to going around Denmark, and so has become the world's most travelled canal.

The Norwegian Dream is the largest ship able to regularly pass through the canal. It's always a festive occassion, but Sepetember 9th was special: this years final voyage of the season. Locals came out in throngs to say goodbye, waving from bridges and along the shore. This pair were among the many cyclists riding alongsied, noticable for keeping good time with the ship through a good part of the trip.

It was the perfect opportunity to try for my first panning shot done the easy way. I took my focus off them and held the camera steady for a slow shot as we moved together. Even though a longer lens might have been better, I was pleased with the result.

Unsharp mask and some playing with contrast to darken the blowout off e water.
