Hi Harriet,
A good idea and natural framing with the trees silhouettes in a strong back light.... I think a smaller aperture and/or higher shutter speed would have given more details on the water... Still a pleasant and quiet view and atmosphere

Hi Harriet,
Special light as the storm approaches right from the direction of sun. Sometimes the cloud formations look more distinctive while this is like a uniform wall. Lower exposure could show the lake with less overexposure, although directly reflecting sunlight is white no matter what.
Silhouettes of curvy tree and nicely detailed chair are good details.

A very good and informative note to go with this picture. Although the clouds are dark, it still looks very peaceful and serene with these lovely trees and the bench. TFS and have a happy day!

curieuse composition, mais elle est dûe au moment, celui où ce ciel si sombre laisse la vedette à la rivière qui devient la source de lumière.
J'aime beaucoup, ce n'est pas banal.

Hello Harriet,

You have captured a sombre scene here.
I'm afraid I do not gain the same impression as those critiquers who say it is calm. I find this dark, a little threatening. The lonely seat gives the impression that everyone has left ... they have made a safe exit. Good composition.
Perhaps a bigger F stop would have helped with the reflected light but ... the bright water helps with the contrasts!

It is quite eerie how the atmosphere changes before a storm - as they say: "The quiet before the storm!"
I like your composition here Harriet. The trees are like natural framing, and I do like the seat's position there too.

What an amazing atmosphere you have captured here. Although the water is verging on over exposure it doesn't matter because the silver adds to the atmosphere with the blackening sky, the abandoned seat and the wind blown grasses. Very dramatic image

A place to sit, watch and look at this brooding storm come along. The small chair shows great depth of the tree to the right, and I like how we can see the wind brewing also. Excellent sharpness and colours, very well captured.

Hallo Harriet,
ein schöner Moment im Licht und ein glücklicher für mich, weil der Server mal wieder reagiert. Die Bank spielt gut mit dem Baum, sehr reizvoll. Die Reflektion hätte ein Polfilter vielleicht eingefangen für etwas mehr Struktur.

Really love this shot, you have successfully convey a dramatic image worth to capture. The addition of the bench is excellent here and i like how it silhouetted against the slightly exposed water in the lake. The formation of the tree from the right and the branches resembles perfectly with the atmosphere. Love the drama here, well done.

The contrast between the brightly glittering water & the dark sky is quite astonishing. Framing with the trees was a good idea. Like the silhouette of the bench, which actually adds a lot to the compo of this dramatic image. Well done!

Hi Harriet,

the time before storm...so electric, so powerfull, so overwhelming yet so frightening. Lately we had storms leaving devastation behind them and the magic of before storm moments is disappearing, slowly replaced with fear and worries. However, looing at this wonderful capture with strong sun reflections on the water with darkened background of the sky one cannot help to admire the beauty. The bench yiels for invitation to sit down and embrace the event, but we know better... Simple motive but with very strong output. Wonderful!
