Photographer’s Note

Today here in Germany it's the Sunday in commemoration of the dead, the last Sunday in liturgical year. It's called "Totensonntag". I do not know whether there's a similar day in other countries. It's an official holiday and it was instituted by king Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia in 1816 mainly to commemorate the dead soldiers killed in the wars and by and by all German states instituted it.
Today people customarily visit the graves of their familiy members on this last Sunday before Advent season in order to decorate them and to commemorate the deceased.

Here I show you an old cemetery where graves aren't decorated or looked after anymore. It's the old Jewish cemetery, situated in a grove on a slope high above my city. It was in use from 1871 to 1914 when about 230 Jewish people lived in my city. In this time 60 deceased have been buried here.
Today it is surrounded by a fence and a brickstone wall - and a gate with a padlock.

Sometimes one can find a candle and little stones on the steps to the locked gate ...

In workshop you can see another view.
