Photographer's Note

This 8.3 m high Goddess of Victory statue, locally known as the 'Golden Else', stands on the top of a column in the Tiergarten. The column was built from 1864 to 1873 to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Prusso-Danish war of 1864, but the gilded figure/was added after Prussian victories in wars against Austria and France. The base is decorated with bas-reliefs of battles. An overview of the monument and a close-up of the base is shown in the Workshop.
