Photographer's Note

The Other City Gate

The photo I teased about in the note to my previous photo will have to wait a little longer. First, it’s time for the Burgtor to take the stage and step out of the shadow of its more famous sibling. In the note about my first photo from Lübeck, I already pointed out that only two city gate of the medieval fortifications still remain. The most famous one is Holstentor, a symbol for the city of Lübeck. The other one, Burgtor, is seen here.

Burgtor is located at the northern end of the Old Town (Altstadt) of Lübeck. It’s another fine example of Brick Gothic architecture and it was built in 1444 with the helmet-like roof of the tower being added in 1685.
