Photographer's Note

Interior shot of Sanssouci Palace: library.

Frederick II aka Frederick The Great 1712-1786, King in (and eventually: of) Prussia 1740 - 1786.
The king loved music, was a master of the transversal flute and even capable as a composer. In strong opposition to his father's efforts, he received an education in latin and literature, aided by his huguenot tutor Jacques Égide Duhan de Jandun, who assembled a secret library for him.

Despite his nickname, Frederick II measured only 1,58 m which is perceptible in the design of his personal library. This room, immediately adjacent to his office with writing desk (and iron camp bed), contains approx. 2000 books and requires 20 percent of the king's private suite.

I had to shoot this, and without tripod, as they charge you 3 € for the photo permit. If you visit Sanssouci: don't take it, unless your equipment is excellent!
