The town of Luneburg in Northern Germany is built on a salt deposit, hence the source of its wealth and prosperity in the Middle Ages when it was the principal supplier of salt to many parts of Northern Europe.
The Rathaus or Town Hall is an assembly of different buildings dating from the 13th to 18th centuries. It is one of the main sights of the town.
