Photographer’s Note
The science fiction/horror film Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott, has become extremely popular and influential, and has spawned several sequels and imitators. The title of the film refers to highly-aggressive extraterrestrial creatures (unnamed in this original film, but referred to as Xenomorphs in the sequel Aliens). But the connecting thread becomes the saga of Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, a human woman who finds herself the principal opponent of the species throughout the series. The film launched the first major American film series with a female action hero.
The Alien series consists of four movies: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien³ (1992) and Alien: Resurrection (1997).There is also a fifth Alien movie rumoured.
What you see is the roof of the Hamburg Central Station, an impressive iron construction from the beginning of the 20th century. After post processing (HDR, tone mapping etc.) the result reminded me somehow of the gloomy visual design of the Alien movies. I guess it would fit as a backdrop for a fifth sequel (with the Philips neon writing as product placement). I’m sure that cute little Alien would feel at home in this iron hull.
Dedicated to all scifi-fans!
Here is the plot of the legendary first Alien movie:
“The Nostromo, a towing vessel hauling an enormous ore refinery and 20 million tons of raw ore, with a crew of seven (including Captain Dallas and Warrant Officer Ripley) has set out from the mining colony Solomons on its return to Earth in the year 2122. During the return voyage, the ship’s computer (called Mother) intercepts a non-human transmission from the moon LV-426. Mother, according to Weyland-Yutani (“the Company”) protocol, alters course and wakes the crew from hypersleep in order to investigate the transmission.
Upon investigation of the transmission source, a derelict alien ship, Executive Officer Kane becomes infected with an alien parasite. On orders of Captain Dallas, Kane is brought back on board and treated by Science Officer Ash, who is, unknown to the others, an android. The crew members return to the Nostromo from LV-426, hoping to return to Earth as soon as possible. After a brief period, an alien emerges from Kane and proceeds to kill all human crew members except Ripley. Ash, the android, was terminated by the other crew members after his attempted murder of Ripley, an action he took in defense of the alien species.
Ripley activates Nostromo's auto-destruct sequence and escapes in the shuttle. The Nostromo and its cargo are destroyed in a series of explosions, but Ripley soon discovers that the alien had also entered the shuttle. Half-dressed and nervously singing "Lucky Star", Ripley kills the alien by blasting it out of the shuttle's airlock and burning it with the shuttle’s jets. Ripley sets the shuttle's course for Earth and returns to hypersleep.”

HaHaHa!
Some member could not bear looking at it like this, and granted you a correction. Definitely useful WS :)))
Well, even the charity points would not help your "Blade Runner" to survive, therefore i decided to ignore the androidic lady in your previous post (however i appreciate your efforts to get closer to people...).
But, this one is an excellent result of your HDR mastery, and the tilt really makes sense when you consider the other famous Ridley Scott sci-fi, Alien. I still remember the feeling of alienation when i just arrived under this giant steel roof...
Regards from my nargile friends and me :)

As a devoted sci-fi fan, I love it! Who can forget how stylish, how powerful and scary the first one was! I admire H.G.Giger's work and the creature he designed for this movie was amazing. (Actually, it was redesigned to make it more scary. It was said to have "strong Freudian sexual undertones and multiple phallic symbols, while simultaneously presenting an overall feminine figure, provided a compelling androgynous image, conforming to archetypal mappings and imageries in horror films that often redraw gender lines". Ripley was one of the most powerful characters in the history of cinema, in my opinion. Last but not least, Nostromo was like another character in the movie thanks to its suffocating, dark interior design. Your photo really reminds me of the ship. Congrats.
