InterCityExpress at the top level tracks of the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station). Berlin Hbf is a result of a huge and time consuming project started a couple of years after tearing down Berlin wall. It's located on the place of former Lehrter Bahnhof very close to where the wall used to split the city. The station complex has five stories open for public. East-West tracks are on the top level above the ground following the Stadtbahn line. North-South tracks are far below on a new tunnel line.

The station was opened in May 26th, 2006. Berlin hasn't had a single main station before. Before WW II there were several end stations depending on the direction of travel. And during Berlin wall era the operations were mainly separated between East and West.

Berlin Hbf in Wikipedia.

I used more unsharp mask on this than usually, to better separate those grey surfaces from each other.

I love this one, Kari, a complex one to illustrate the hectic scene of the train station... I esp. like the long train up there in the compo, regards, Daniel

A complex and interesting image Kari, with a great sense of depth thanks to all the different levels in the scene.
You made good use of the wide focal length and the composition works well, although I'd have liked it if the train ran parallel with the top edge of the frame - not sure why, and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.
Interesting work, I like it.

Cheers,
Ben

Hallo Kari!
You show us an impressive photo of an amazing place. I like both, the buildup of this photo and the bold construction of this station ... but at the same time I must think of the light railways in Germany which become degenerate more and more ...
Greetings from rainy Germany - and have a nice weekend!
Frank

Really an impressive architecture well shown here karj , perfect wide framing and light management , compliments.
Stefano.

This must be a dream place for every train lover. I was there at construction time and remember to think what a great project it would be when finished just looking at the architectural model in the outskirts of the complex. Your picture is very nice. Seeing the white consist in the upper level is really a futuristic view. I like it very much.

Kari: great layering in the Hauptbahnhof image. Great DOF adds to your maze-like theme. regards, c

Wow , what agood effect shot , your positionto take the post is majestic.. Bravo ,the colours are super , this is a another difficult post to do , Bravo réal.

Hi Kari,

Original composition from this brand new railway station.
There are a lot of interesting details in this picture. You picture shows very well that two lines are crossing each other in this station. The escalators gives a good idea of all the levels.

I have always absolutely loved trains and everything connected with them, they are actually very powerful symbols when used in any kind of artistic expressions.
And of course, they are so photogenic! I like this perspective, 3 strong diagonal lines that seem to hold the composition. Very interesting to see, well done, Kari!

PoV is really perfect here, Kari, as it allows to build a complex composition which still works as one complete whole to create a futuristic impression... the red line is an excellent detail!..

Cheers
Alexander
