Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a result of a huge and time consuming project started a couple of years after tearing down Berlin wall. It's located on the place of former Lehrter Bahnhof very close to where the wall used to split the city. The station complex has five stories open for public. East-West tracks are on the top level above the ground following the Stadtbahn line. North-South tracks are far below on a new tunnel line.

The station was opened in May 26th, 2006. Berlin hasn't had a single main station before. Before WW II there were several end stations depending on the direction of travel. And during Berlin wall era the operations were mainly separated between East and West.

I used more unsharp mask than usually to show more texture on modern steel architecture. Modern style was also the reason for scifi reference on the title.

Hello Kari.
Nice perspective and perfect exposure for this picture showing the different building's levels, from the railway station with the red wagons waiting their passengers to the mid and high decks.
Well done.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Whenever I see an image with escalators or steps in different directions I immediately think of Escher. It must have been difficult to find the right framing as there are no obvious stop and start points. Are you on an escalator opposite or does the gallery on the right run round the side? Interesting post.

Hi Kari,
very interesting composition that makes me think of Escher too. Isn't our world a place of illusions?
Great management of the light!

Kari,
my fist impression seeing this here was that this is the station in Bern, but then looking into the details I realized that it can't be.
I probably would have done even more USM to get even more details out of it.
Peter

Terve Kari,
Well it looks... huge ! But you have not shot this one at widest extend with the 10-22, or did you massively correct distortion ? Extra sharpening does not look exagerated, and the indoors rendering is good.
Have a nice day JY

Your photos connected to railroads makes for an interesting presentation Kari. As this one from the station in Berlin. Lots of details to interest in this pulsating environment. Good capture, fun use of the rolling stairs in this setting.

An interesting picture Kari, a kind of modern indoor landscape, perfect POV and great use of the various architecture elements, compliments!!!

have a nice evening,
Fabio.

Hi Kari,
While urban scenes aren't usually my cup of tea; the framing and detail here are just amazing. Somehow you managed to compose this in such a way that to make fascination out of chaos. The levels of the escalator make a perfect focal point while all the details add the fascination of a minature village.

Terve Kari,
The photo has excellent composition and perpective. Also the exposure, colors and clarity are perfect. The note is informative too.
I'm starting to think of a 10-22 mm lens. :-)

Hello Kari,

What an interesting, modern compo:) Nowadays all these big shopping malls are places where lots of interesting shots can be done. You also succedeed! Very well chosen POV, good perspective and colours.

Good job!
Greetings,
Mikeo

Hello Kari -

What a big change since the last time I was at this station (October 1968). It seems like the shopping mall has taken over everything. I like your composition with the stairs zig-zagging up the left half of the image. We also get a reflection of part of those same stairs on the right. Difficult lighting and white balance issues and all taken care of perfectly.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Hallo Kari!
A fascinating photo showing an object of needless megalomania! I like the many details one can detect here. The "old" system with several stations worked rather well - but obviously a capital needs a main station - never mind what it costs ...
Greetings from summerly Germany!
