Photographer’s Note

I have uploaded some photos from the lagoon of Mesolonghi, but never a photo from Mesolonghi itself. Even though this time the focus is also at the lagoon, still you can have a "sneak peek" at the town in the background.

I took all the photos from that place, during a 3 hours stay there, (I also tasted some excellent fish in a great tavern). I was at nearby city of Patras, preparing a story for the magazine I work for, and on my last day there, and before taking the road back to Athens, I decided to pay a visit to the place where my father had spent his highschool years. I had heard a lot about the beauty of this place from him, and every word he told me was true. So I want to dedicate this one and all the others to my father, Vassilis.

Εξαιρετικη ασπρομαυρη φωτογραφια.Τα πασαλακια βοηθουν παρα πολυ να οδηγησουν το ματι στην πολη και ειναι ενα πολυ ωραιο και ποιητικο θεμα.Μ'αρεσει παρα πολυ η θολη "υφη" που δημιουργητε στο νερο απο την αντανακλαση,κατι που αυξανει κατακορυφα το ενδιαφερων.Εξαιρετικη φιλε μου!

A classic and simple composition that has worked very well. The surface of the water looks like a sheet of glass, and the reflected clouds have created some interesting patterns.
I do find the background a bit busy, but as it takes up such a small area of the frame, the effect is minimal.
Overall, a well taken shot Hercules, and it works well in B&W.

So, you have stepped into the world of black and whites! seen not many of b/w's in your gallery. This one is beautiful! The leading lines is really a good title. The pov is beautiful.

Such a wonderful composition rendered in black-and-white. The clouds and their reflection, the line of wooden barriers, and the sense of proportion of the elements is dazzling. It's great to be able to go to a place that you heard so much about from your father and validate those opinions as well as find your own meaning from your own experience. I love your spirit of travel, Hercules. Your photographs show so much of that.

Hola Hercules,
tengo que reconocer que, aunque soy partidario del color, este B/N aporta un gran dramatismo a esta escena. El grafismo que dan las nubes reflejadas en el agua, y la perspectiva de los postes, que nos llevan los ojos hacia el paisaje del fondo, funcionan de maravilla, y dan mucha calidad a la imagen.

Εξαιρετικό ασπρόμαυρο (τι να κάνω; ενθουσιάζομαι με τα καλά ασπρόμαυρα)
Η όλη σύνθεση σου αποπνέει ένα όμορφα συναίσθημα γαλήνης και ηρεμίας.
Οι αντανακλάσεις στο λίγο κατσαρωμένο απο το αεράκι νερό είναι πανέμορφες.
Πολύ καλή επίσης και η γραμμή που δημιουργουν οι πάσσαλοι και που οδηγούν το μάτι στην πόλη στο βάθος, αφού διανύσει πρώτα όλη την φωτογραφία.

Nice b&w, Hercules! The contrast is very good and the reflections are impressive, but the framing with the poles crossing the picture in diagonal disposition is the highlight here.

I think, B&W landscape photography is one of the most daring issues of this art. You can mess it up by drowning lots of necessary details in deep black. But this one certainly does not suffer from this possible trickery, and i can almost admit that your decision of B&W created a certain mood which makes this photo something else. Blue water/white cloud contrast would certainly end up less effective than black water /white cloud contrast, and the mirroring effect is now much more obvious. The poles give great depth, and finally restricting the infinity with the land and the clouds is creating a more realistic result. Your B&W photos are rare, but you know which one to present in duo tones. Congrats :)

πράγματι η γραμμή των πασσάλων οδηγεί το μάτι κατ'ευθεία στην πόλη του Μεσολογγίου.Εξαιρετική η απόδοση σε μαυρόασπρο όπως επίσης και οι αντανακλάσεις πάνω στην λίμνη.Το φως του ήλιου φωτίζει ευχάριστα τους πασσάλους,την πόλη και τα νερά τα κάνει σαν παστέλ.Καλή δουλειά.

Hello Hercules,

This is a very effective image, where the posts in the water make a beautiful diagonal pattern, where the clouds exhibit stark contrasts in the shades, and the sharpness is as sharp as the old Ilford b/w film used to produce. Your note was endearing. That is similar to how I felt, but in this case it was my grandfather, when I visited the street where he had grown up, and played with Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk)on the steets of Thessalonika. Hello Hercules.
A nice and rather simple composition with these sticks leading the eye from the photo till the background.The reflections of the sky and clouds on water surface are very nice but what is amazing me is the stained glass look of ths foreground water. The background with the mounts and the clouded sky completes well this simple but very beautiful composition.
Nice choice for B&W.

The dramatic clouds whice are also reflected in the water are super. I like the line created by the poles which takes us into the shot and to the town beyond. Nice perspective, and the black and white adds to the great atmosphere.
