Photographer’s Note

Almost a month since my last b&w post and i thought it was about time to upload one more. I also wanted to add a photo in one of my latest themes, LAKES AND LAGOONS OF GREECE. Here you can see after a long time, one more photo from one of my favorite places in Greece, the Lagoon of Mesolonghi, and the typical, traditional boat of the region, called "Gaita".

I hope that you wouldn't mind if I copy one of my older notes with general informations about this place:

"The main attraction of the region is of course the lagoon. It is divided in three different parts, the lagoons of Klesova, Mesologi and Etoliko. This whole marine region, along with the cultivable beaches that surround it, is a very important biotope. The small islands that are hidden inside the lagoon are Klesova, Vasiladi, Ae-Sostis, Shenias, Prokopanestos, Tholi, Paleopotamos, Dolmas and Poros, uninhabited small islands that played an important role during the liberating fight of the Greeks. On these islands there are vivariums that produce the famous fishes of Mesologi. You can visit all these vivariums in a day with a motorboat. The lagoon covers an area of 131 km2. Its production reaches 800.000 kilos of fish, 100.000 kilos of eel and 1.500 kilos of roe. The lagoon is also the best place for a good walk, especially during sunset, when the colors of its water take you to exotic places."

Hi Hercules,

Very nice black and white! I especially like all the strong lines in your work. Good harsh light! Seems a duotone/tritone photograph instead of black and white. Very nice!

Oddly enough, this shot reminds me of Alexis Zorbas and the recount of his story.

First of all the horizon attracts me, then the fishing net, and last but not the least, the bamboo shutters.
The B&W suits the shot.

Splendid! Every little piece of the frame clearly detaches itself from the background. Contrast and luminosity are just as perfect as it could be. Though it is a centered frame, it does not bother me. What I like the most here, is the different layers of textures and shadows, from water to clouds...great job!

Beautiful scene you've rendered here in B&W. It's a better way to focus on contrasts and to reveal light playing with details of the picture. This one is so well composed a translates a great feeling of quietness. Very well done !

Hola Hercules,

A la gran calidad habitual añades un cuadro bellísimo! La valla que cruza en diagonal y la barca que en otra diagonal converge con la valla! Los tonos grises son bellísimos y el fondo es tan sutil y suave que da un toque de calma y paz exquisito! Me gusta mucho!

Very nice. What makes the image, in my mind, is the diagonal at the bottom, it makes for a good tension with the horizontals that dominate the rest of the image. A very peaceful shot, beautifully exposed.

The colors of the lake of Mesologi are unforgettable, but the black and the white is a miracle. For me this photo is to be classified in my favourites for its technical qualities but especially for this fantastic graphics which builds up around the shadows and particularly those to itself of Gaita.

Hi Hercules,
I saw your gallery on the theme Lakes and lagoons of Greece, as you told me... that's great !
This one is my favourite.
I like the differents lines we can see here, I also like the boat and its net which, with its reflection draws a sort of heart. Maybe the boat is too much on the centre of the picture, maybe.
Good B&W treatment, it's very appropriate.
In a word, a very peaceful picture.
