Photographer's Note

All around the mountainous region of Zagoria, at Ioannina Prefecture, you 'll see dozens of beautiful stone bridges of the past centuries, like this one known as Kontodimos (of Lazarides) bridge. Among the most famous of them are Plakidas (or Kalogeriko), Kleidonia, Kokkoris', Kamper Aga, all of them stone bridges, that seem to be perfectly "fitted" to the natural environment (they usually take their name by the "sponsor" of the work).

The inhabitants of Zagori and Epirus in general, were unknowledged ploughmen and specializes in stone constructions for many centuries not only in Greece, but also the Balkans, Europe, even America and Africa, building beautiful stone houses and bridges. They used to travel in groups like Caravans around the world, making sort of a "tour", and they left their homes for many years.

What amazes me the most in their case is that although these people didn't have a special education, still they had great sense of aesthetics.
