Photographer's Note

I love Greece.

Is that enough? Not quite, but I'll say it again in more words...

I love Greece because it has offered me the sort of voluptuous sky-beauty no other place on earth has. My favorite place on the planet so far? The island of Hydra, which I hope I have a fine enough image of to share soon...

This, however, is an image taken in Athens, one of the most polluted, congested cities I have ever seen (and I live right by a major expressway in New York City). The most remarkable thing about Athens? The stray dog population. If I were ever to write something about Athens professionally, it would be called The City of Dogs. But, since I have no great image to represent this, here is The City of Ducks.

This was shot on a typical snap-shot camera in the main park in Athens. Ducks wander freely from the ponds, through various statues, around park benches, disregarding spectator and monument alike. They are tame, happy and free.

It's a wonderful part of the world if you have wings; it's a fine part of the world if you have strong legs...

PS: A scan, unsharp mask, a crop, some light level adjustments...

I hope you'll humor me by my choice of "people" as the subject since "places" seemed too removed.
