Photographer's Note
This is really one of my favourites pictures.
When being in Hungary many years ago, we passed a little village late in the afternoon where 2 people sitting outside their house got our attention. I stopped the car grabbed the camera and by hand movements asked to take their picture. This resulted in a lot of activity and finally the whole family come out and sat down for the big family portrait.
So here they are the 4 generations Magyar Family late in the afternoon some place in the countryside southeast of Budapest.
Tech: Scanned at 2400dpi from slides, unsharpen mask, colour adjustment and a touch of NeatImage.

Great shot Jack.. I understand why it's one of your favourite shot.. It's simply beautiful.
You manage to make them sit exactly the right way.

Very well archived. They really don't look like Budapest folk at all, it's amazing how little distance you need to go from that capital to get into another world.

Great family portrait. The scan may be a little bit better, but that is beside the point here. A great capture of a interesting culture. Very well done!

This really is an historical shot, taken during the communist era and showing a glimpse of life at that time. Some how the pose really suits this image, usually i wouldn't like it but it reminds me of when photography was a new science and people had to stay still for 10s to get a shot. Great shot, thanks for posting it.

Wonderful portrait, Jack. The look humble, yet at the same time happy and friendly. I love how they "orderly" sit in front of the wooden fence and door. Easy to tell how this is one of your favorite pics.
You might even have considered posting this as a large panoramic version ;-) [just kidding]

Really really good family documentary picture. Was their place in the composition random chosen, or was it arranged? Either way I find it a very strong portrait. Does this family have a copy of this picture? For sure they would be proud of it.

Wow, a textbook picture. The less saturated color and the softness adds to ints ingenuity and authenticity. Great picture Jack.

Great shot Jack! I like it softness and cold colours. Compositions is also very nice. It's a posed shot but looks very natural and that's why I like it.
Well done!!!

Simply great portrait, Jack! The prevailing blue colour and the children as two bright spots have a fantastic effect here. I like the glass bottles on the ground - for me they add to the whole atmosphere, especially together with the wooden background. Excelent capture indeed!

This one passed right by me... And I'm sure to say that this is one of the best portraits in TE! Their expression, the body position, the panorama composition and the colors ara fantastic! The details of the space between the woman at left that coincides with the door works very well.
Maybe some adjustments in the sharpness and colors could be made but it's minor comparing with the rest.

bravo , even the bottles are important in this family portrait; added to the the lines of feet , they lead the sight to the vanishing point behind the fence, where, I guess, stands the family garden...
excellent shot so expressive, so much information concentrated in a little picture!

Hi Jack.
It really is a very nice photo.
I like how they put themselves in exactly the same posture. Those bottles are really funny and add to the overall sense of the photo, like the photo tself is taken through a bottle, specailly seen in the distorsion from both sides. I like how the kids bright colours are contrasting the overall blue.
all the best, Aleks
