Veszprém

Also known as the town of queen consorts, Veszprém is built on seven hills. Its historical and architectural heritage stretches back to the Hungarian Settlement and the town is the intellectual and economic centre of its region.
Veszprém lies on the borders of two geographical regions: the Balaton Uplands (Balaton-felvidék) and the Bakony Hills. The River Séd carved deep valleys into the terrain here, hence Veszprém's other name: 'the town built on seven hills' - each with its own name.
The town is also known as the town of queen consorts, which began with Gisella, St Stephen's wife. The establishment of Hungary's first and oldest cathedral is connected to her name. The bishops of Veszprém had the privilege of crowning the queen consorts, and they wore the office of the chancellery of queen consorts. The town nurtures fond memories of Gisella: the arts and science festival of the Gisella Days begin on her name day each year in May.
The castle was built in the 10th-11th centuries on one of the seven hills of Veszprém. The castle district later gained a Baroque character. Most sights, including excellent lookouts and important cultural venues, are clustered here.

The encircling wall that embraces Castle Hill is almost the only remaining testament to the former fortress. There are, however, an abundance of historic buildings here in the castle district. Giselle, the first Hungarian queen consort, established Hungary's oldest cathedral. That building was destroyed but its Romanesque-style foundations and Gothic sanctuary and undercroft were integrated into the neo-Romanesque St Michael's Church. The chapel named after Giselle is a famous work from the Árpád Age architectural era and has a Gothic mural.

Hello George,
A great point of view looking down this passage way through the archway to the square beyond. The contrasting tones and the two ladies walking through the archway makes for a fine composition. Excellent colours and sharpness.

Bonjour George , pas toujours facile de cadrer dans un endroit aussi étroit, le grand angle est souvent le bienvenu.
Par contre, les lumières sont très bonnes.
J'aime ce partage net entre le jaune et le rouge.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi George,
Bright colours make this picture. Cosy feeling from a closed quarter of an old town. Symmetry works well with that slightly off-centre passage.

Hello Mr Rumpler,

You had an excellent result with this composition, where the soft light conditions offer a balanced light between the walls and outside the passage as well. Carefully framed scene with perspective taking place right in the forefront corners. Bright colours do the job to attract attention.

Well done!

André

Hello George,
Attractive colour palette!

A good sense of depth as we're looking out to the brighter street!

Good perspective and composition. I like the colourful decoration. Also interesting is the view through the gate. Well done.
Best wishes,

Geroge, another great capture. I am constantly amazed and the tidiness of the northern European civilizations, that and the attention to detail makes almost any photo a postcadr scene. You combine all the element well, color and detail as well as the obvious well thought out compositional elements. The note tops all this off to make another great presentation.

Hi Geaorge,
An interesting combination of shapes and colors and also architectural details. The people add some life to the scene. Good light control
Greetings

Hi, George -

A nice use of colors and shapes to focus the eye on the doorway. It's also not easy to get both that kind of door and these walls properly exposed without going overboard on one or the other.

Nice job!
Dan

Dans cette photo tu as su profiter de cette juxtaposition des deux couleurs rouge et jaune. L'image est très agréable à regarder et possède une belle profondeur. Bien joué.
