Back to Iceland: a view from the edge of the extinct Hverfell volcano cone in the Myvatn-Krafla area of northern Iceland.
In the distance is lake Myvatn.

Extra note
One thing I forgot to mention is the graffiti in the bottom of the crater. Unfortunately it's become a popular tourist sport to walk/run down into the bottom of the crater, write a message in the sand/ash and then photograph it. The result is that the interior of the crater is now seriously defaced. According to my Lonely Planet guide, the bottom of the crater is now closed to tourists to prevent damage to the geological formation but there was no evidence of this when I was there.
Being a wide-angle view the graffiti is not obvious in this shot, but you can still just about make out grey lines in the bottom of the crater.

Hello John,
excellent view of this stunning landscape. The authentic colours make it very attractive, the composition is perfect in this image. I must say that quality wise there is no comparison. Looks like we are right on the edge of the volcano. And last but not least the sky is impressive. A great bravo.
Regards.
Stella

Amazing view! Great point of view, colours and the sky, very dramatic!
Cheers!

hello John,
a nice composition with the spiral leading the view to the cone, superb sky.

Hi John, this is wonderful...piece of work.

I really like very much the way you show Iceland. What a light and colors, all so silvery, the composition is impeccable with such a variety of textures, the diagonal enhances the graphism of the crater. Compliments.

TFS
Best regards
Michèle

Hi John,

Nicely composed. This photo has the look of two different images in one. The composition in the foreground makes it for me. I can tell you were very careful about this ensuring first that the cone was not cropped and that the lighter portion at the bottom of the crater emanated from the corner spiraling to the cone. Memories of Iceland...

Cheers!

Hi John,
a great archaic landscape. A must to visit ! Excellent postprocessing, too, I suppose.
Ciao Christian

So finally you have reached Mars..Good for you, good for us to check that on Mars there is not only red sand as we always suspected but also green grass and some blue water in a distance. That reminds the Earth.. everyting else is definitely from the "other space"..
Tremoendous landscape! Cosmic proportions, forms.. very good catch!
with regards, Agnieszka

Hi John,
An excellent perspective to this landscape, with the volcano's curverd lip providing a fantastic introduction to what lies beyond. The inclusion of the bands of green, silver and blue in the background provide a nice contrast to the grey/brown of the volcanoe. Very well done.
Cheers Grant

Hi John,

well this one is just wow. I noticed from photos of others on TE that the light in Iceland is very different from ours. So sharp, silver like. It is clearly felt from this capture. My humble admiration.

Best regards,
Jeri

Hi John,
this is an awesome shot.
The sky and the dark/bright change makes it so dramatic.
Certainly the landscape with the lake in the background is stunning.

Watching this photo makes me angry,... I didnt walk up the slope when I was there last summer. Another reason to go back.

Thanks and keep on posting,
jochen

Hello John,

Your shot, even if no more necessary, gives me the wish to go in Iceland. It is a long time I think to go there. It makes me a strong impression those wild landscapes and the plays with the grey and green colors, and this, below a dramatic cloudy sky.
Did you use a graduated neutral grey filter to increase the rendering of the sky or is it direct from the sensor?

Yves.

Hi John

It is very rare to see a crater this close and sharp with details, and you did very well here with Note.

What impresses me most? The lines runing down the crater in such natural form, contrast and color tone, as a direct result of vulcanic ash.

And you have given a great pov here to show this angle's viewpoint, to include a little of green before the lake.

Question : Whether you have done any pp work to the sky?

Overall, the photo is worth your effort for TE to appreciate. 1st photo I see on Iceland!

TFS, bill

Wonderful capture. The lighting is magnificent. How did you get the clouds like that? Was there a filter used or some PP done? I notice that other people that show shots from Iceland have a similar look. Anyway the wide angle really works here. Great composition.

Hi!
Lovely picture of Hverfell, I remember this place from a trip to Iceland 10 years ago. Very good DOF, sharp and crisp. I like the way you have included both Myvatn and parts of the crater - good composition.
The dramatic clouds are also important to make an interesting shot.
TFS,
Regards
Jon

Hello John,

What a great landscape in spit of the place that looks desolated. You composed the image very good and captured an excellent sky with beautiful clouds. The crater was placed into one of the most powerful spots of the composition! The contrast was also well adjusted! Thanks for sharing!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Hi John

Perfect Compo. with those magnificent dark colors

anche il grigio può essere bellissimo... incredibile!

John,
there is something that I can't understand. Why do people go to places like this and start ruin the beauty of it? What is the humour of racing down there, putting your foot prints over this slope to get down there and grafitti the ground? Is that special? Is that supposed to be funny?
Good that you did this with your 12-24 that minimized the destruction to a minimum. If it wouldn't have been for your outcry in the note and wouldn't have noticed the grafitti.
Very good PP to enhance the eerieness of the locale.
Peter
