Aerial view of the Viti crater in the Krafla caldera

Krafla is a caldera of about 10 km in diameter with a 90 km long fissure zone, in the north of Iceland in the Mývatn region. Its highest peak reaches up to 818 m.

Krafla includes one of the two best known Víti craters of Iceland, the second is part of Askja. The Icelandic word "víti" means "hell". In former times, people often believed Hell to be under volcanoes. The crater Víti has a green lake inside of it.

The orange color comes from the rhyolitic substratum of the Krafla area.The people walking on the crater rim give you a flavor of the size.

Picture taken from a plane with excellent light. Sorry but by uploading the picture in TE much of the colors just disappeared (which become to be a real concern).

Encore une photo splendide. Le point de vue est excellent mais on ne pas faire beaucoup mieux qu'avec un avion. Tes informations sont très enrichissantes et malgré tout les couleurs sont belles.

About the colors - could it be that you were using Adobe RGB color space instead of sRGB ?
