[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Walking around the Skútustaðagígar area of pseudo-craters on the southernmost shore of lake Mývatn, I was attracted by the colour caused by mineral deposits and algal growth on the bottom of the shallow lake. The algae provide food for the swarms of midges for which Mývatn is famous.

For slightly more info on Lake Mývatn see the note here.

Excellent landscape shot, John, the vertical framing you have chosen results in a multilayered balanced composition with much interest all along the frame, also very good use of a wide angle lens!

Cheers

Quite unbelievable view. Nice colours too. Cheers, Tibo

Well, John,
you keep them coming these beauties...and make me want for more. I like the pov with those gorgeous algae giving the whole image a great mood, it's all so limpid and crisp, the colors come out perfectly in my view, those orangey tones are quite a sight. I think one could something quite abstract with those algae...
Did you have a head-net for the midgets ? very useful:-)

TFS
Cheers, Michèle

Hi John,

I think I ran out of my compliments for you photography. Skills to admire, shots to adore. It is nice to see that this days you get more recognition cause you really deserve it, but still not enough IMHO. you are a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing.

Best regards,
Jeri

Greetings John,

I saw similar colours in Wai-O-Tapu in New Zealand, caused be deposits of oxidized iron particles, gold and sulfur. This is magical, the sheen of light on the still water is exceptionally well taken, and the mirror effect is flawless. The strange sloping hill in the centre is a reasonably dramatic backdrop to fill the upper reaches of this frame. The white border is well constructed and contrasts efficiently with the subtle colour combinations. A wonderful photo, almost takes on the characteristics of a watercolor painting. Congratulations.

Matt

Very nice landscape John, great composition and colors. I my personal opinion the border between the background hill and the great sky is a little bit more aggressive. And just one idea more sharpness I think will be better to be fantastic shot!

TFS and regards,
Philip

I nicely composed image with rich FG colour.
It looks like an interesting place to visit.
Phil

Un'atmosfera fantastica, surreale. Potrebbe essere un'immagine da un film di fantascienza. Bellissima.
Ciao Stefano

great pov colours and sharpness. different shades of light and colour make it surrealistic

Hola John,

Hello John:

For me, this picture has an unusual composition, but very interesting and original.

The nuances dice, make us move the head up and down and bottom-up.

The portrait format, save a great balance.

Wow this is stunning John!
The red foreground looks interesting and very catchy, and the overall setup is well thought through.
Also the small movements on the water surface adds to this one.
Very nice work
Harry

Another beautiful picture.
Excelent landscape, i like the colour contrast and the atmosphere of this picture.

Hi John
Very pretty composition having the orange deposits in the water placed at the bottom and the crater aligned up the top. The colours contrast nicely too and the clouds creates a dramatic atmophere.
Regards
Nikki
