This is the John F. Kennedy Park in Cobh(Cove) Ireland.
This park is located at the harbor where so many immigrated to the U.S. and where the Titianic made it's final stop. Queenstown it was for some decades before reverting to its old Irish name in 1922 - the Cobh (cove) of Cork. From here hundreds of thousands of mostly hungry and penniless Irish men and women left for America to build a new life, especially in the Famine years of 1844-48. Cobh, Cork was the last port of call of RMS Titanic which anchored at the mouth of the harbour on April 11th 1912. It was from here that the ship weighed anchor for the last time and sailed west towards her tragic fate in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. |
