This is the main alter of St. Coleman's Cathedral in Cohb(Cove) Ireland. St. Colman's Cathedral, overlooking Cobh, carries within its walls the traditions of thirteen centuries of the Diocese of Cloyne. It is dedicated to St. Colman who founded the diocese in 560 A.D. Colman was a poet bard to the Court of Aodh Caomh, King of Munster, at Cashel in Tipperary. Influenced by St. Brendan and St. Ita, he left Palace life to become a priest. He received grants of land at Cloyne, on the eastern shore of Cork Harbour, from the King of Cashel. There he founded his monastery, traces of which still survive.

The Cathedral contains an inscribed list of all the bishops of the diocese from St. Colman to the present day. Three bishops died in exile during Penal Times, Robert Barry at Nantes in 1662, John Sleyne at Lisbon in 1712 and John O'Brien at Lyon in 1769. Thaddeus McCarthy bishop from 1490 - 1492, died at Ivrea, Northern Italy, as he returned from Rome. He was beatified by Pope Leo XIII in 1895. (www.iol.ie/~gercasey/cathed.html)

beautiful alter ... I think I would like this in portrait view ... to get closer crop on the alter and the height of the building.

take care,

Hi Asa,

Very nice shot of the interor of this cathedral. Taking pictures inside churches is always a bit tricky, but have mangaged to take a really good picture here. Nice light and many interesting details.

Cheers,

Ulf

Bonjour Asa,
Il manque un tout petit peu de lumière pour admirer la beauté et la finesse de ces sculptures. Mais il est vrai que ce type de cliché est toujours assez difficile à prendre.
Note intéressante qui complète bien cette vue.
Amicalement

Bonjour Asa,
les photos dans les cathédrales ne sont pas toujours les plus faciles à prendre, il faut souvent en prendre plusieurs avec des paramètres différents.
Celle-ci est très bonne, nette et parfaitement exposée, elle est cadrée un rien trop bas.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hello Asa,
You did a very nice job with the lighting to get a sharp and vivid shot. The section of the cathedral that you have presented reminds me very much of St.Patrick's cathedral here in NYC. I love the detailed artwork and the portions of stained glass that are in your photo.

Hi Asa,
Beautiful view of this beautiful cathedral with the fine intricate workmanship of the altar seen in fine light that brings out all its marvelous details.
The wonderful stained glass windows and silver and gold ornament are very well seen.
Regards, Tom
