Church of Santa Maria in Platea - Campli (TE)
Built towards the end of the fourteenth century on the remains of an older building, Santa Maria in Platea stands in the main square of the town, Piazza Farnese. Just after its construction, in 1395 it was elected to Collegiate, that is to say the seat of a college of canons. The church assumed an even greater importance in 1764 when Campli consecrated himself to the Immaculate Conception and the Madonna was proclaimed Queen and Patroness of the town and of its territory following a typhoid epidemic. Under the Cathedral there is a crypt dating back to 1000-1100 dedicated to the Immaculate Virgin.
