Photographer's Note

Well, Happy Valentine's Day! Three young men sit outside a shop selling lavender products, Piazza Municipio, Venzone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.

Venzone, up in the Dolomites, is a medieval town, included in "I Borghi più belli d'Italia" (The Most Beautiful Towns of Italy). It's still very attractive, or should I say has been made attractive again, as much of the town had to be rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1976. The town was almost entirely destroyed by the 1976 Friuli earthquake, which killed 47 inhabitants. Clearing-up operations started immediately and, by resolution of a citizens' committee, the historic town centre was rebuilt in its original style from numerous pieces of rubble in the next years. The reconstruction was finished in 1990.

I wonder if these three lads knew anything of the town's recent history.
