Photographer's Note

The Pantheon in Rome, masterpiece of Apollodoro. Imagine a circular building 43.3 metres (142 ft) in diameter and 43.3 metres in height, able to contain a perfect sphere, the roof of which follows that perfect sphere up to a circular opening. This is what Apollodoro was able to design and build over 2000 years ago. The spherical cupola, the largest in the world, is still standing today. We think of ourselves as highly technologically advanced, but can you imagine what the Romans could be today had their empire not vanished? I can't.
