Photographer’s Note

This is the head of The Tigris statue the full statue can be seen in the workshop, it is located in the Pio-Clementino Museum near the Octagonal Courtyard at the Vatican Museum. The Tigris is made of marble from the Greek island of Paros but with Renaissance restorations which include a new Michelangelesque head and repairs in the right arm and the hand holding the urn. A second century Roman sarcophagus with a battle of Amazons serves as the base.

The Vatican Museum is one of largest museum complex in the world, located inside the grand and magnificent Vatican Palace. It comprises 12 large complexes with over 1,300 rooms.

The museum was founded by the Pope Julius II the 16th century in the Vatican City. Today, they are counted amongst greatest art and sculpture museums in the world, displaying an extraordinary collection of arts and artifacts of the Roman Catholic Church.

In addition, the walls of the Vatican Palace have beautiful paintings and frescos from renowned Renaissance artists such as Fra Angelico, Perugino, Botticelli, Signorelli, Raphael, Michelangelo, Giulio Romano, Giorgio Vasari and Taddeo Zuccari and host of others.
