Photographer's Note

Without doubt, the most pleasant surprise of our trip to Italy was the city of Vicenza. I've always been an amateur architecture buff, so I couldn't pass up a visit to the city of Andrea Palladio. But beyond the Palladio sites, I found Vicenza itself to be a graceful, tidy, quiet, lovely city. Signs of prosperity were everywhere--an abundance of expensive cars, clean streets, none of the decay and crumbling that almost every other Italian city exhibited. Beautiful architecture, peaceful ambience--it was a lovely place.

In the distance, if I remember correctly, is the Teatro Olimpico, or Olympic Theatre, Palladio's final architectural design. It had closed by the time I got here, so a shot through the fence was all I could manage.
