Palladian Basilica
The Palladian Basilica is the symbolic building of Vicenza. Characteristic for the sergeant loggia, which surrounds the medieval Palazzo della Ragione, that is, a structure consisting of a constant light arch along with two rectangular, architraved lateral openings, of varying width and therefore able to absorb the differences in the amplitude of the fields . The operation is evident in corner arches, where architraved openings are reduced to almost zero, but it is present in all the spans, whose width varies, albeit with little. Designed by the great architect Andrea Palladio, it was inserted by Unesco in the list of heritage assets of humanity in 1994.
Between 2007 and 2012, the Basilica was the subject of a complex and articulated intervention of architectural, functional and plant restoration thanks to the fundamental contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Verona Vicenza Belluno and Ancona. It was reopened on October 5, 2012 in conjunction with the inauguration of the great exhibition "Raffaello towards Picasso. Stories of looks, faces and figures".
