Church of San Giovanni Battista - Foligno (PG)

Of ancient origin, it is located in San Giovanni Profiamma, today a fraction of Foligno, but once a Roman center of notable importance, Forum Flaminii. It was already a bishop's seat starting from the first centuries of the Christian era, since in the "Passio Sancti Felicianii" of the VI-VII century there was talk of the presence on the spot of a Basilica and a bishop as from that period. The church currently dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was built in 1239 on the pre-existing early Christian. The façade has an elegant ten-pointed rosette at the top with two small mullioned windows at the sides. The portal in white stone is decorated with sculptures whose theme is sin. The Romanesque interior is a single nave with a raised presbytery.
