Battistero di Pistoia
Pistoia preserves the last great example in chronological order of medieval baptistery: built between 1301 and 1366, the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Corte is a very refined expression of the so-called "Italian Gothic", that is of the wake of the French Gothic that in Italy assumed entirely peculiar characteristics, integrating with the pre-existing Romanesque; it represents a very high level of constructive ability, involving many first-rate masters, from Lanfranco da Como to the baptismal font in Cellino di Nese for the architectural decoration of the upper external part.
