Rocca di Precetto - Castello di Ferentillo – (TR)
The territory where Ferentillo is located was swampy and impervious, rich in wild and luxuriant vegetation that completely covered the slopes of the hills, down to the areas below, unhealthy.
It has been inhabited for a long time, the Roman presence in the place is witnessed not only by the prediali Nicciano, Ampognano, Leazzano but also by the discovery of a votive stone with inscriptions near the abbey of San Pietro in Valle and preserved there, dating back to the republican period.
The origins of Ferentillo date back to the eighth century, according to the tradition founded by Liutprando in 740 and for many centuries its history is linked to that of the Abbey of San Pietro in Valle.
A little later are the fortresses of Precetto and Matterella, built together with the nearby castles of Monterivoso and Umbriano, to defend the Abbey.
Between the 12th and 14th centuries the village of Ferentillo developed, around the ancient parish church of Santa Maria.
