This is a view of the Sella Group in the Dolomites of Alto Adige-South Tyrol.
That peaks, with the higher point at the Piz Boè, 3.151 meters are surrounded by 4 valleys: Fassa, Livinallongo, Badia and Gardena.

In that valleys people speaks the Ladino.
------------------------------------------------------

Ladin (Ladino in Italian, Ladin in Ladin, Ladinisch in German) is a Rhaetian language spoken in the Dolomite mountains in Italy, between the regions of Trentino-South Tyrol and Veneto.
It presents connections with the Swiss Romansh and Friulian.

It is spoken in:
the province of Bozen-Bolzano and in the province of Trento in the Val di Fassa and in the Veneto province of Belluno in Livinallongo valley and at Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The number of Ladin speakers in South Tyrol and elsewhere is unofficially estimated at 28% and, according to the 1991 census, 18% of these live in the Province of Bolzano. 95% of the people in the Val Badia learnt Ladin as their first language, while in Gardena the figure was 60-70%, in the Avisio valley 60-75% and in Livinallongo 95%. Ladin is used in everyday speech by the following number of inhabitants (in %):
Val Badia: 98% Gardena: 60% Avisio: 70% Livinallongo: 95% Ampezzo: 30%

The Ladin-speaking area became part of the Roman Empire in the year 15 BC. The Romans introduced Latin, which evolved into Ladin in this area. Around 1000 AD the area was divided into individual principalities. Around the year 1800 some areas of the Ladin-speaking area came under the rule of Joseph II, later to come under the Austrian government; between 1806 and 1813 they fell to Bavaria and Italy and then remained part of Austria until the end of the First World War. In 1927, the Ladin-speaking valleys were allocated to the three Provinces mentioned above as a way of weakening the national groups. Four years beforehand Belluno, Val Badia and Gardena were made part of the Province of Bolzano, while Avisio remained in Trentino. In 1939 the government offered the Ladins the opportunity to emigrate under the Option; they were classified as Allogeni, although Ladin was officially classified as an Italian Dialect by the Italian government. This Option was cancelled by the German occupation in 1943. Annexation to Italy took place against the wishes of the people after the Second World War. After the War, in 1948 the Ladins in Bolzano and Trentino were given a Special Statute, but this was not the case in Belluno. In 1972, the new Autonomous Statute came into force in Bolzano, strengthening the legal position of the Ladins.

That form of Ladin is spoke also in the Swiss Graubünden. The first inter-Ladin meeting took place in St. Ulrich in 1954 and other meetings followed in 1955, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1972 and 1980.

Hi Paolo,
beautiful sunsetcolours on the mountains. Good that the foreground has just enough light to see the difference between trees and grass.
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

A really spectacular shot, which makes you think the terrain is so vast it cannot be in Europe. The lighting clouds and sense of scale and peace are caught perfectly.
my grandparents lived in Merano, not far from here and though I have not visted the area for many years, I remember it as sublimely beautiful. I think you have made me plan a trip there this year!

Bel paesaggio bei colori e bella descrizione, allora complimenti Paolo.
Ciao

Serwus Paolo !
As for the setting sun capture, this vista is incredible. Last rays of light made this mountainscape very poetic. And You managed very well with exposure, as the shaded forground is still well visible and chose really scenic point in the distance for enjoying such a beautiful spectacle of the Nature. Great Work.
Have a nice week,
Mat

Hey Paolo,

back to your specialty. I have to ay though, after yesterday's shot, I was hoping to see more of your offbeat human observations. Still, you cant be disappointed with this shot. Superb softness of light and great details..this is not scanned, right?

ciao, Fabio.

Ciao Paolo,
This is one of my favourite places for skiing (the Sella Ronda is a wonderful itinerary). I've also been here in the summer for rock climbing, but never managed to see such a beautiful sunset!
Your compo is beautiful with the dark foreground and the important space left to the clouds and those pink clouds.
Grazie mille!
Brigitte

Buon Giorno Paolo, I simply love these beautiful colours in this sunset, simply stunning. A sky that seems to come straight out of a painting and I expect angels to appear at the horizon! A good composition here as well with lovely contrast between the green foreground and the majestic background! It feels like 2 different worlds. Excellent landscape shot! Sabine

Hi Paolo
Beautiful landscape with a great light over these summits!
The sky with its soft colors is great and your note about
Ladin language and people is interesting. Good job!
Quentin

spectacular master of the light, especially the green part that could have well disappeared completely but is still present and not underexposed. Well done!
Eric

Paolo bonsoir - ces plans décalés avec des couleurs et surtout des lumières également décalées sont merveilleux - les nuage et les derniers rayons de soleil le sont aussi -
splendide (comme d'habitude)
Merci et bonne soirée
Gaby

Saluti
Una bello paisagio. THe light behind is magical and I like the lines that cut through the landscape. It makes me think of tepuis in Venezuela.
You should try to light up the foreground a bit.
Regards
Daniel

Ciao Paolo,
Nice mountains indeed, I appreciate here that the first range is already in the shade which create a good light opposition with the second range, and an even better one with the third.
Buona giornata,
Jean-Yves

What incredible shapes the mountains have; The light at the back really brings out all the texture. You have included just the right amount of sky.
Kath

Hi Paolo - the sharp jagged peaks are captured under a beautiful light, is this where Osama came from?

Hi Paolo
A dramatic and nicely coloured shot. Good composition, warm colours and nice exposure. I like the effect of the warm light on part of the mountain peaks. This is a good capture. Well done.
Aubrey

Ciao Paolo,
what a beautiful lightning. I like the contrast of the dark part in the foreground and the great colours in the rocks and in the sky.
