Just a short break from my "Lagoon of Mesologhi" serie, because my last panoramic upload reminded me of this panoramic shor of San Gimignano, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Italy. If you want to see how it looks from inside, check my Medieval Manhattan photo.

You can also check the LARGE VERSION.

Here's some info I found in WIKEPEDIA:
"San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill-top town in Tuscany, Italy, about a 35 minute drive north-west of Siena and about the same distance southwest of Florence. It is mainly famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers. Because of its position atop a hill the skyline can be seen for several miles outside the town.

San Gimignano was founded in the 3rd century BC by the Etruscans, as a small village. The city's documented history begins however in the 10th century AD, when it took the name of the bishop, Saint Geminianus, who had defended it from the attack of Attila's Huns.

In medieval and Renaissance times it was a stopping point for pilgrims on their way to Rome and the Vatican as it sits on the medieval via Francigena. The city's development was also boosted by the trade of agriculture products from the fertile neighbouring hills. In 1199, during the period of its highest splendour, the city made itself independent from the bishops of Volterra. Divisions between Guelph and Ghibellines parties troubled the inner life of the commune, which however managed to embellish itself with artworks and architectures.

On May 8, 1300, San Gimignano hosted Dante Alighieri in his role of ambassador of the Guelph League in Tuscany.

The city flourished until 1348, when the plague that hit all Europe compelled it to submit to Florence. San Gimignano became a secondary centre until the 19th century, when its status of touristic and artistic resort began to be recognized."

Hola Hercules.

Felicidades!

Un saludo, Oscar

Kalispera Hercules,
Despite the heavy touristification, San Gimignano is always a favorite place. Your panorama gives a comprehensive view of the town. Great composition and color. I have quite a few photos from inside but none like this. Did you take the photo from a specific location? Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Hercules,
wonderful skyline. I like the way towers point to the sky. I like it very much.
Have a nice weekend,
Tomi

Hi Hercules,
I know this town, excellent shot of the tower, very nice color and composition.
Ciao

Me gusta mucho. Buen fin de semana,

Angel.

Hola Hercules:

Excelente toma.

abrazos

Geia Sou Irakli,

This is a really wonderful photograph of San Gimignano. The panorama version works very well. I like the wisp of cloud on the right side of the image. This town is a true highlight to any Toscana visit, I visited this medieval town a few year ago and found it be a real treat.

Hola Hercules,

Hi Hercules - even without the larger version this would be a great image, capturing the city perched on top of the hiill, with it's walls & towers. Great viewpoint, and a very colorful shot, the LP helps us see the details even more clearly. I was there 1 month after your visit.

Beautiful view over one of my preferite cities of the centre o Italy, the large version is a nice gift and your work with the note is excellent, compliments Hercules.
have a nioe sunday
Ciao

Hi Hercules,

Hello Hercules
Very nice stitch in this medieval village; the picture is very well sharp.
I think it was possible to mask the white package on the upper left.
Cheers

Nice shot Hercules, I love these views of European towns, hey are so inviting. The colors are good and the detail is super.
