Photographer’s Note
View of the Turaida Castle (13th century) from Gleznotāju or Paradīzes kalns (Painters' or Paradise's Mountain).
The last winter was rich with snow in Latvia - at last! After several years with tiresomely grey, warm and rainy winters without snow. This is a little view into one wonderfully cold (-17 degrees C), calm, very snowy and beautiful evening of January. Photo is taken in Sigulda Town, which is the center of the Gauja River National Park (established in 1973), Vidzeme's region. The main "artery" of the park is the ancient Gauja River valley, which was left behind when Ice Age glaciers receded. The valley is 95 km long, with many tributaries that are also in deep ravines with massive sandstone cliffs from the Devonian period. The deepest part of the river valley is at Sigulda town (85 m deep).

What a magical fairyland. The softness adds to the effect and the color of the castle focuses attention on the shot. It appears to be floating on a mass of cottony clouds. Very interesting photo! Thanks, Judy

A beatiful shot no doubt, the trees look soft almost like clouds like a building in the sky. Excellent point of view on this building. It might be a bit overexposed, but it's still a great shot. TFS and take care

Hi Inguna,
This is a beautiful, fairy-tale photo that looks more like a painting. I like its softness, the white on the branches balanced with the white on the building.
Excellent work!
