Photographer’s Note

Širvėna Lake is a lake located in Biržai municipality, northern Lithuania. It is the oldest artificial lake in Lithuania. It was created in 1575 when the dam was built on rivers Agluona and Apaščia. The lake was built to protect the Radvila castle in Biržai. Now the city of Biržai, which was built around the castle, is located on the southern shore of Širvėna lake. The suburb of Astravas is built on the northern and the suburb of Rinkuškiai on the western shore.

Širvėnos ežeras – ežeras šiaurės Lietuvoje, Biržų rajone, apie 1 km į šiaurę nuo Biržų. Šiauriniame ežero krante yra Astravas – Biržų priemiestis. Šis ežeras yra dirbtinis. Tai seniausias tvenkinys Lietuvoje. Jis atsirado 1575 metais užtvenkus Apaščios ir Agluonos upes jų santakoje.

Hi,Jurgita,
What nice scenery to the pleasure of the romantic's eye.
The colours are very expressive and relaxing and the whole atmosphere of peace is well conveyed.
As I'm a tree-lover, I find the shot still more valuable due to the included leaning tree.

hello Jurgita,
veru nice work, I like a lot the effect of the wide angle on the water and rocks in the foreground. beautiful colours, make me think of amber, which is more than appropriate :) there seems to be an overexposed spot in the sky, but that's not a major point. very well seen and presented, my compliments.

Well, I had to laugh, because on your home page the Featured Photos displays this shot "Tree on the Lake Sirvena" next to "Sailing the Chicago River" - take a look and you will see the connection ;)
