Photographer's Note
The foot of the hill Gediminas was inhabited in the 4th century. While the State of Lithuania was being created, Vilnius became one of the most important political centers, later becoming the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
In the place where the village of reinforced wood was located, at the end of the thirteenth century a powerful stone castle was built, the first in Lithuania, which is now one of the most significant buildings in the territory of the Lower Castle.
At the end of the 15th century, the construction of the defensive castle began to become the representative building of late Gothic style, used residence of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. In the 16th century, renowned local artists, as well as Italian architects, Poles and other artists and craftsmen, rebuilt the Royal Palace into a luxurious Renaissance residence that later acquired the characteristics of early Baroque. The palace was the residence of the Lithuanian and Polish princes.
The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are known as the Golden Age of the Palace. Vilnius at that time was an important center of Central Europe, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, which were under the reign of the monarchs of Jogaila and the Vasa dynasties, being a state of significant influence in the region.
The flowering times ended in the middle of the 17th century. The palace was partially destroyed by the occupation army of Moscow and at the beginning of the 19th century this destruction was complete.
The idea of restoring the Palace of the Rulers was born together with the liberation movement of Lithuania at the end of the 20th century. Detailed archaeological investigations were begun on the palace in 1987. Nearly 500,000 unique finds were found on this site, which became the basis for the restoration of the palace. The restoration of the destroyed Palace of the Rulers began in 2002. During the commemoration of the Millennium of the Name of Lithuania, on July 6, 2009, a symbolic inauguration of the restored palace of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was held.
------------------------------------------------------

Hello Luis,
As I think I mentioned before Vilnius was my favourite Baltic capital. I liked its mixture of styles, the blend of old and new and the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. This photo is certainly not from any of the gritty parts of the city, but it's a very good photo of the elegant palace with a glimpse of the red tower on the hill in the background. The trees and people in front of the palace provide nice colours. It's a superbly exposed photo with a very nice sky.
Kind regards,
Gert

The white stones built building has a prominent appearance on the scene, Luis.
Taken from a fair distance to allow good view of its width and height.
Scaled well with the people in front.
A photo superbly done.
Buen tardes,

Hello Luis,
A great photo of Vilnius, which is the only Baltic capital I still need to visit. The white architecture looks very appealing and the blue sky with the large white clouds make a very attractive backdrop too. Great work.

Hi Luis
A shot portraying a solid architecture of this handsome building from yester years enveloped by such a dramatic & expansive cloud extravaganza which have added some zing to this shot. I love the sublime clarity, colours in depth and sumptuous detail throughout. The visitors counter balance the whole capture nicely. Wonderful capture, Congrats

Bonjour Luis,

Nitidez excelente.
Parabéns!
