View of Fort St Angelo on the Vittoriosa peninsule (part of the Three Cities) and Grand Harbour.
The picture is taken at the viewpoint in the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.

Unfortunately during my visit it wasn’t possible to visit Fort St Angelo. It wasn’t known when it would open for public again.
Great views on Valletta, Vittoriosa and Senglea are possible from on many places along Grand Harbour.
A spectacular viewpoint is in the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.

Fort St Angelo (information from Wikipedia):

Early Medieval Period:
The date of its original construction is unknown and may date back to Roma times. It certainly existed in the early medieval period. The remains of a tower that may date back to the 11th century when Malta was under Arab control can be traced among the more recent works. From the 14th century the Maltese Islands were under Aragonese rule and the fortification was known as Castello A Mare (Castle by the sea) and it was home to the powerful Nava family, feudal lords of the island.

Knights of Malta:
When the Knights of Malta arrived in Malta in 1530, they chose to settle in Birgu (Vittoriosa), and Fort St Angelo became the seat of the Grand Master. The Knights made this their primary fortification and substantially reinforced and remodelled it. Fort St Angelo withstood the Turks during the Siege of Malta in 1565, though in the aftermath of that siege the Knights built the fortified city of Valletta on Mount Sciberras across the other side of Grand Harbour, and the administrative centre for the knights moved there.

Dag Paul,

Een mooie algemeent overzicht op deze haven of het eiland of Malta. Een goed POV dit toont hoe de stad in de zee vooruitgaat. Goed idee om de boot in de foto te plaasten.
Goed avond,
Roger

Hi Paul, The POV is perfect to show the scene off superbly, the whole surrounding area has wonderful ancient architecture spreading right across the photo, the light is very good &, you have the ship just about perfect as it leaves its wake behind, kind regards Wilson.

hi Paul

I have seen not much scene like this from Malta and it does look very compact with all the buildings placed in this tight space. Good composition of this viewpoint, especially the boat as FG subject and blue sea. The fort is well placed in this composition.

Hi Paul,
Very good point of view, the panoramic one is nice and has a lot of depth.
Excellent light and beautiful colors, in a select well setting, and with a great graphical result.
The ship gives dynamism to the scene, and offers us a very interesting contrast.
Nice work.
Best regards,
Josep

Bonjour Paul,
My compliment to your excellent gallery of quality photos!
As for this image, you got the best pov with a good fg perspective of a sailing ship!
the image is sharp with good lighting and superb details on the city!
well done
merci

Paul,
This is a lovely scene, beautiful infact. I would love to be there. The photo is quite good, the a few place that can use a little improvement. First the good stuff, I like the detail of the sea with really great color and sharpness. The POV is really good. Compositionally, it woudld be nicer if the boat is not in the center, more to the left is best. The city and building is a little over expose or overly lighten. It may be the strong sun light. This can be corrected a little with photo software if you have. Otherwise, it's great. I really enjoyed it. Thanks Perhaps I will do a workshop to show you.

Hi Paul,
you did very well here. POV and composition are well selected, colours are rich and pleasant, and the ship makes the scene more dynamic. I think the horizon is slightly tilted, but it is not a big issue.
Thanks for sharing
