[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
View of the Azure Window, a 50 metre high rock arch in the cliffs at Dwejra Bay.
The sea has worn a hole through a narrow headland forming the ‘Azure Wndow’ (in Maltese: ‘it-Tieqa’).

The name ‘Azure’ is given of course because of the deep blue colour of the sea around which is very deep there. On my picture no saturation is done by any photo program. These are the natural colours of the sea and of the rocks.

The arch is in a dangerous condition: Large pieces of rock keep falling down. There’s a possibility that the arch will disappear in a few years. Several warning notices are placed to stop people walking over the top of the arch. However when I was there these warning notices didn’t stop everyone as you can see on the picture.

The famous Azure Window is probably the most spectacular natural landmark and certainly the most photographed site on the island of Gozo.
Several pictures of it has been posted here before. They’re all a little different from each other.
I certainly don’t believe my picture is better but I like the fact that on this pic you can get an idea of the size of the arch thanks to the many visitors walking around in the area (even on top of the arch).

The coastline of Dwejra Bay is very scenic and invites people for beautiful walks (the whole island of Gozo is a fantastic destination for walkers).
There’s the deep blue sea, there are high cliffs all over, there’s Fungus Rock and there’s also the Inland Sea, a lagoon of seawater linked to the sea through an small opening formed by a narrow natural arch.

I took my picture on top of the cliffs behind the Fungus Rock and zoomed in on the arch.

Dwejra Bay and the Inland Sea were created millions of years ago. Too bad the Azure Window won’t last that long anymore.

Hi Paul
beautifull geological detail. This bridge of stone is amazing. Excellent perspective.
Thanks for this nice post
Bertrand

Bonjour Paul:

First time I see a landscape of this island located in the Mediterranean.

Although I believe there is an excess lighting, the view is majestic and beautiful. I love the contrast between the rock formation and the deep blue sea.

The view is spectacular and the people, detailing the greatness of the scene.

John

Dag Paul,

Een mooie en spectaculair standpunt van een naturlijke schoonheid. Mooie contrasten tussen de kleuren. De mensen op de rotsen brengen een beetje leven en helpen de afmetingen merken.
Goed zondang mijn vriend,
Roger

Paul,
Wow, what a view this is. Wonderful deep blue Sea. The peoples give scale and perspective to this size of this mejestic landscape. Good sharpness, The light on the rock may be a little over exposed. You may want to check you monitor setting, so you can process your photo accordingly. Thanks for this grand view.

Hello Paul, The vivid blue is amazing and the ant-like figures are important in adding interest and scale. A pity that the intense sunlight has caused the rocks to be over-exposed - a constant problem under these conditions. 'Fungus Rock' sounds interesting!
Best wishes....Maggie

Hej Paul,
Your photo really shows how small we are and how much there is to discover of our beautiful nature! The small humans gives a very good proportion of the size of the rock.

Well done!

Hi Paul
Nicely done. The people add scale to this image and the colours are superb. I think I might have tried applying levels to add a little more contrast to the rocks.
Phil

Incredible colours and incredible construction of nature, the existence in the pict of human being gives an idea of the enormous size of the rock. Well seen and composed Paul.

Have a nice day

Hola,

Elena

Hi Paul,
Masterpiece of the Nature, indeed!
Without the people in your frame there could be no information re scale of this natural wonder.
Also perfect POV, wonderful light and colours.
Best Regards!
Chris
