Photographer’s Note
View of the former village of Sveti Stefan from a hilltop. The village is now a hotel, and I was travelling with my mother at the time (so she was paying) and I was fortunate to spend the night there. Non guests may also enter, this is not Dubai. This viewpoint can be reached by a narrow concrete road.
The title is inspired by a song by TOOL, a song I listen to often when I'm working out at the gym, I just bout their latest release 10000 days, I'm listening to that now. Next week both Serbia and Montenegro are expected to declare independence. I like the way the island is splitting yet still joined to the mainland. Lyrics of the song:
SCHISM (by TOOL)
I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smouldering
Fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed
Will set two lovers' souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes
Testing our communication
The light that feuled our fire then
Has a burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end
Crippling our communication
I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame
It doesn't mean I don't desire to
Point the finger, blame the other
Watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together
Rediscover communication
The poetry
That comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it
Finding beauty in the dissonance
There was a time that the pieces fit
But I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smouldering
Strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know
The dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow
And strengthen our communication
Cold silence has
A tendency to
Atrophy any
Sense of compassion
Between supposed brothers
Between supposed lovers

Hi Tan,
As ever you've gotten a wonderful viewpoint from which to take the shot, high up above the subject. The colours are really strong with great contrast between blue, green & red (water, trees & buildings).
Inspired by your note, I'm listening to 'Schism' as I write this! ;) I've yet to buy '10,000 days' but it's on my list, they are an amazing band.

Hello,
Ce village sur cette presque'île est impressionant.
Il s'agit là d'une place forte assez bien pensée.
Très belle composition. Une image moitié bleue et moitié verte.

Hi Tan,
I think I haven't a big luck to build my house one day on this isle.
The price of the ground must be very expensive.
Excellent compo and POV, the hotel-village is well placed.
Well done

I have mixed felling about the song but I like the picture much more, since the site is really impressive and the point of view well chosen to enhance it. Nice color of the sea, the lack of horizon and sjky concurs to the impression of entrapment of this small semi-island which looks like folded on itself.
All the best,
Emmanuel

A lovely luminious picture of a wonderful setting,Tan.I would love to stay there. ButI wonder what happened to the villages former residents. Were they forced out of their beautiful homes, during the Tito years, to make a luxury hotel?

What an enjoyable photo to see after a long day! Very interesting place Tan. The lyrics fit this photo very well. You always seem to find those corners of the earth that few have ever seen. A pleasure to see this place...thanks for sharing!

Hi Captain,
Wherever the actuality you always have a photo !
A beautiful captain's pov with nicely contrasting colors, I like how the village is detached entirely over the deep blue water, all this under nice light is optically excellent.
Have a nice sunday,

Hello Tan,
A nice POV to Sveti Stefan, the world is getting mad... now they chase people from their houses to cater tourits(might not be the case here, but it is a trend that develops everywhere)!!anyway... great colors and framing , sharpness is , obviously excellent... and your note explains well the situation.
Good job.

Yes the countries decided to split, so one more state will be on the map of the Europe :)
Nice sunday!

What a wonderful shot Tan..the POV is truly superb. I like the detached village, the houses accentuated by the red roofs, contrasting against the dark blue waters. Truly amazing. And I like the song too..maybe I should buy this one

Hi Tan,
You captured this village from a privileged POV, showing this very interesting tinny island almost detached from the continent. Well composed shot, leaving a big portion of water and then, enhancing the view of the island.
Take care

Hi Tan.
I really like the comparison you propose between your picture (with the Island that seems to be splitting from the land) and the actual situation of Montenegro becoming independent.
I will try to listen to Tool's album...
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tan, Another good composition of this part of the world. This town looks so good framed against this blue water. Excellent perspective and clarity. This series will entice many to visit this part of the world and i plan to be one of them. Good portrayal. Murray.
PS Good to see something positive from this once troubled place.
